From Leah Lievrouw:
Dear CHIG colleagues --
I am pleased to announce a symposium we will be holding at UCLA on November 12-14, entitled
Reimagining the Archive: Remapping and Remixing Traditional Models in the Digital Era. I encourage you to submit an abstract for a paper, installation, demonstration, or other related work (our Save the Date flyer with details is attached). The preliminary deadline for abstracts is August 1, but proposals will be considered as they are received.
Broadly organized around the themes of
transition,
navigation, and
curation, the meeting will bring together an international roster of top media and archival scholars, as well as industry professionals, to consider the consequences of digital technologies for all aspects of media archives and scholarship. We will be announcing our keynote speakers and further details about the program very soon.
More information and a full Call for Participation is available at the Symposium website,
http://polaris.gseis.ucla.edu/reimagining . You can also contact me, or our Symposium staff directly via email at
digital@ucla.edu with any questions you have.
The event is being co-hosted by our UCLA M.A. program in Moving Image Archive Studies, the UCLA Film & Television Archive, and the Institut National de l'Audiovisuel (INA) of France (Paris) and its graduate program, INA'Sup. (Additional support for the meeting is being provided by the National Digital Information Infrastructure Preservation Program of the Library of Congress.)
On behalf of my colleagues on the planning team, I hope you will consider joining us at UCLA in November!
all best, Leah Lievrouw
